Bucks County School Districts part of huge beef recall

Six Bucks County school systems receive recalled beef, says Pennsylvania state officials.

Pennbury, Bristol Township, Bensalem, Quakertown, and Morrisville public school districts and the Wood Schools in Langhorne received the recalled beef under a national school lunch program. Other nearby school districts which received the recalled beef: Philadelphia, Lower Merion, and Abington.

School officials are urged to check their beef inventories and follow the recall instructions. Agriculture officials say there is “very low risk to human health” in the recall of products from the Hallmark/Westland Meat Packaging Co. of Chino, Calif. The company voluntarily recalled 143 million pounds of raw and frozen beef products on Sunday.

Bristol Borough Council supports historic byway

Bristol Borough Council supports historic scenic byway project which would connect about towns from Easton, PA to Bristol, PA. This week, the council sent a letter showing their support for the project. At the end of January, 39 letters of support were still needed from local munipalities, before they could even submit an application to Penndot.

The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor Commission and the Heritage Conservancy would like to create a series of roads from town to town, which would create the scenic byway. Landmark Towns of Bucks County, is a program consisting of local businesses, officials, and community members would like to brand the waterfront towns of Bristol, Morrisville, Yardley and New Hope as tourist destinations. This is the only the beginning stage, and there isn’t even a proposed route for this project.

The state scenic byway program is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration program and recognizes select roads for cultural, archaeological, historic, natural, recreational and scenic qualities. The designation could bring federal funding, economic development, preservation, community development and tourism.

What do you think? Do you think it is even worth it to have a scenic byway? Is it financially responsible? What sorts of problems do you see arising from this sort of project?

I would love to hear the opinions of local residents on this topic.

Bensalem man: “That cheese sandwich sold for $28,000. I think this log is worth as much.”

Bensalem Catholic man finds a biblical image in a piece of wood cut from a pine tree. Apparently, the Bensalem furniture maker was at a friends cutting wood for furniture when he was awe struck by the image.

After the Catholic man placed the log on eBay, and did not think $500 was a suitable bid, he removed it from the online auction site. And quoted, “That cheese sandwich sold for $28,000. I think this log is worth as much.” The gentleman was referring to the grilled cheese sandwich which contained the image of the Virgin Mary had sold on eBay for a whopping $28,000. Holy Cow!

Bucks County church vandalized over the weekend, again.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Woodbourne Road in Levittown, PA was found Sunday morning, vandalized, spray painted, and statues were broken. Also, a device was found behind the church which resembled a pipe bomb and the bomb squad was brought in to destroy the questionable device.

It is a shame. Over the years, this church has been a target of vandals on numerous occasions. What’s the deal with these people destroying churches around here? I really hope they catch these pieces of s**t and give them a few thousand dollars in fines along with some jail time.

Best Sandwich in Bristol, PA

I like to eat and there is this sandwich that I buy every month
or so. If you live in Bristol Borough you are probably familiar with the large
Italian special from Mazzanti’s on Lincoln Ave. I nominate it “the best
sandwich in the boro”. It consists of imported proscuitto, capicolla, extra
sharp provolone, fresh tomato, a light sprinkle of pepper, and it is all placed
on a 2-2 1/2 foot seeded stick bread from Italian Peoples Bakery. This is the
real deal. Don’t ask for lettuce or onions on your sandwich…they will
not do it.
You can however get hot peppers on it or on the side.

You might want to call ahead early in the day to order one. They
get their bread daily from Italian Peoples Bakery and once it is gone, no more
sandwiches till the next day. I like the sandwich so much, I have their number
programmed in my phone.

Their info is below. I also provided you with a map to get a better
idea of where it is. When you turn onto Lincoln Ave from Pond St., Mazzanti’s
is down about half a block on the right hand side. The building has a brick
exterior and blends in with the rest of the homes on the same side.

Polmeroys, Ports, Boscovs, and now a WalMart Supercenter !

Slowly but surely, the Levittown Shopping Center is being rebuilt, and yes,
a WalMart Supercenter is being put there. In Levittown, PA construction has
already started for the mega-mart, and the tentative date for the opening will
be sometime in April 2009.

The WalMart in Fairless Hills, PA is going to be shut down and this will be
it’s replacement. Among WalMart, other nationally well known companies will
share the grounds of the old Levittown PA Shopping Center. Home Depot, Wachovia
Bank, and Taco Bell are currently operating. A few other names joining big “W”
are Deb, Dressbarn, Ross, and Famous Footwear.

Although the WalMart in Fairless Hills, PA will be closed down permanently,
the WalMart in Bristol, PA at the intersection of Rt 13 & RT 413, will remain
operating.

Please see the follwoing links and articles for info regarding the progress
of the WalMart in Levittown, PA

Smooth Transactions

I am happy to say that both settlements I attended today went very smoothly. Staying on top of things, keeping in touch with the lenders, title companies, conveyancing departments, inspectors, & contractors makes all the difference. My clients seemed very pleased and offered to buy me lunch :>)
